Our Trade Commissioners in the US, who handle transportation, needed a briefing on what the Buy American Act provisions were with respect to transit. Judy Bradt had a challenging path to walk. Some of the Trade Commissioners in the group had more experience than others with these issues. She provided a presentation that catered to both—not too over their heads, but with enough detail.
Judy presented complex materials that were very easy to understand.
My objective was to make the Trade Commissioners more aware of the Buy America Act and its provisions so they are able to speak confidently about the problems when they receive a request from a Canadian industry client. I wanted to better equip the Trade Commissioners with tools they need to deal with client requests in the real world.

She interviewed Joe Pixley, "Mr Buy America," the chief regulator on these issues within the US Federal Transit Administration, as part of her research for this presentation. Our group heard the most recent and major regulatory changes that affect our industry. She provided his contact information and explained that he is receptive to speak with Canadian industry or government representatives on these issues and welcomes their questions on specific situations. To learn that we can speak to someone in his position directly is very valuable.
Her presentation and advice will help us to cut through all the bureaucracy in getting direct answers for companies. Without Judy's help, it isn't easy.
